Have a great day.
1/14/2010: If there was a story you could share with your children, what would it be?
I love the story of “the cracked pot”.
A woman puts her pole on her shoulders with a pot on each end.
One pot is fully functional and every drop of water filled at the river makes it back to water her garden. This pot is very proud because it is able to do what it was made to do.
The other pot is cracked. As the woman walks home from the river, the water seeps through the cracks in the pot. This makes the pot very sad as it hardly holds any water by the time it arrives home.
One day, the cracked pot tells the woman that owns it, that she should trade it in for another whole pot so she can get her work done faster.
The woman shares her secret of why she hangs on to the cracked pot. Both pots are making her life better. The woman points out the flowers growing along only one side of the path she travels to and from the river, and says, “While this pot waters my garden fully, this little cracked pot puts beauty in the journey along my way. It is a very special little pot.”
And so are we.
Many people are fully functional and proud, and many people are cracked. But even with our cracks, we are still able to perform to some degree, and we still add beauty to someone’s life.
