1/10/2010: Journal-Lane Question for 1/11

Ponder this question for today. Write it down in a journal to pass on to family members once you're gone.

You can post it here, or in your own journal book.

Have a great day.

1/11/2010: When you went to school, did you walk? Or ride a bus? Share a story about a bus ride or walking to school.

When I started school, I rode a bus in kindergarten.

And then, when we moved, I, again, rode the bus to school for about the first 4 years. After that, our new elementary school was built in our suburb. Now I could walk to school. I loved walking to school!

The only bad part was that I was NOT supposed to cut through houses and go to school by way of the creek that ran around our school. But like all kids, we do things we are not supposed to do.

I loved the creek! I often went there to play and catch crawdads. And I loved the millions of teeny-tiny frogs that exploded around the creek in the spring and early summer.

The best part about taking the creek route to my school was the big hill I had to walk up to get to the school. It was all part of the school yard.

During the winter months, that hillside became a place where all the kids congregated to do “feet sliding”. When there was snow on the hillside, recess was a blast.

Standing straight up or slightly hunched, we would slide down that hill standing up! It was great fun. And that hillside became so slick!!!

Come spring … I always made sure I took the creek route to school, because that hillside was a treasure trove from all the loose change that fell out of our pockets during those winter recesses on the hill. There was “silver” in them hills!

Once in high school, it was back to taking buses. I never really cared for buses.
